Here at Glenogil the forests are managed to enhance the ecosystems within and improve not only tree species and varieties but provide a natural woodland unit consisting of plants, animals and microorganisms.
In our Forest Plan going forward, the regime will include more diverse species including semi natural woodland which is comprised of locally native trees and shrubs derived from natural regeneration as well as a replanting programme. Because of their natural appearance and features these woods play a valuable role for nature conservation and the landscape. Our management aim is to maintain and enhance the values they give, in harmony with securing other aspects of the woodlands including timber production.
Many of the woodlands here on the Estate have a high biodiversity and with further enhancement the hope is to encourage a greater number of species such as Red Squirrels and Roe Deer.
